I just joined the forums in anticipation of getting a 1970s Hi-Lo from someone soon. They are not using it anymore and we are getting it for next to nothing.

It will be my "project" camper. It is not that pretty inside, but I like to take on some projects.

We had an old Kontiki Truck camper that was a lot of fun. We had worked on restoring it and it was pretty comfortable. We sold it in the spring because of several reasons. One of the main ones was that we had it on my 2000 Ford F350 4x4 with a 7.3 diesel and the door to the camper was at neck level. :)

I look forward to seeing what comes of our little project with the Hi-Lo. It needs some work, especially in the interior. Also, I may need to repaint it, but we will see how the summer goes (I am more interested in camping with it than making it look pretty, so I may or may not get to the projects above).

Now for a quick question. My Ford F350 is great and will have no problem towing the camper. However, I'd like to tow it with my 2005 Ford Explorer with the factory tow package sometime if it could handle it. It has the brake controller connector on the Explorer, so I would utilize that. With the tow package, I think I remember it being able to tow 7500, but I am not sure. Has anybody had experience towing with a Ford Explorer?

While my truck is no problem, it has no AC, which can make a family outing less bearable in the heat of summer. So if my Explorer was an option, I might consider that at times.

Congrats and welcome. Hard to answer without knowing more about the trailer and explorer. Check the Explorer manual to see towing weights and GVWR (gross vehicle weightr rating). The concern will likely be tongue weight added to the weight of the Explorer along with passengers, gas, gear. All that must add up to less than your GVWR. You will want a weight distribution hitch, also, to level out the Explorer once hooked up. Good luck- and post some pictures. WE love pictures.
