I'm supposed to go camping this weekend for the first time with my 78HILO and I don't know when the last time the bearings were packed. I can't risk breaking an axle, but my family is counting on me being there. I have already put a good amount of money in my HILO since I got it and would rather do it myself. Please, someone has to be able to tell me how to do this so I don't mess it up and can go camping with my family this weekend.
Thanks

Not to question your mechanical abilities, but if you want to get it done right take to your local RV dealer and get it done this time. They have the proper knowledge for working on bearings. Have them inspect and repack them, including replacing the seals. Also they should check and adjust the brakes while they have things apart.

You will have a more comfortable trip knowing everything has been done properly.

In the meantime do some surfing on the net, for example, RV.Net RV and Camping Forum ? RV, Trailer, Camper, Motorhome, Camping and Campground Information and do a search for repacking bearings. Also try Trailer Hub & Drum Assembly - 3,500 lbs. Axles - 5 on 4-1/2 Dexter Trailer Hubs and Drums 84546UC3 then click on the videos listed on the left of the screen.

I couldn't agree more! You don't want to "learn" this process under the gun of an impending camping trip. It's not enormously difficult, but if done wrong - disaster!
