My trailer works good but I wanted to know how much Hydraulic fluid should be in the little tank and what kind do you add if you need to? How much is the proper amount? I have the owners manual but it does not say.

You use Dexron, Type II, III, IV, or V. DO NOT use Dexron VI! Dexron III would probably be best, since it is closest to the OEM Type II. I've found Type III online.

Fill the reservoir to between 1" and 1/2" from the top with the trailer top DOWN. This means you need to fashion a kind of "dipstick" you can slip in there to see the level. I used a drinking straw that I bent over to fit in.

Hydraulic fluid

JackandJanet, thanks for your fast reply, question how do you put the fluid in with the top down? You can't get to it that I have seen.

You could use a funnel with a longish tube that you insert into the reservoir before you lower it. What I've done though, is to estimate how much to add using the dipstick and then add that amount with the top up. If you put in too much, it will simply overflow when the top is lowered, which is messy, but not particularly harmful.

On my hilo I have aprox 1 inch of fluid left in the bottom of the reservoir when the top ia up which will put the fluid level at 1 inch below the fill cap when the top is down.
