Hey all,
I am planning crosscountry from Oregon (via I-84,I-80,I60,I-70, I-64,I-77 and on thru Virginia) to attend the National Boy Scout Jamboree. My confusion is over rules for rest stops along the way. It is difficult to find out how long can you stay. If you just want to catch a nap and such. Web search has not been that great. The trip to Jambo is just straight drive, trip home will be just a long wanderabout. Will be towing our 26rd, cheaper than a hotel.

Made simular trip to New Jersey, without the trailer, 3 1/2 days...don't tell Ohio State Police.lol.

This is about the same miliage, but with trailer will be a BIT! longer.

Any other safety tips, suggestions, etc.

And maybe add trip info like this to new subject line?

Thanks all, love the info I have learned.

Interstate rest stops and rules

I have found most rest stops do not allow overnight camping. But most major shoping centers will not bother you for staying for 8 ours or so. Some Walmarts have 30 amp plugs on there light poles they allow you to use free.

Rest Stops

Thanks Sam,
I was just thinking of just stopping long enougnh to take a nap, and the moving on. Far less then 12 hours. I have heard of WallMat and of a few other type places that will let you stay, if you ask. But i was trying to make this trip straight thru, without wondering around looking for WalMarts.

If your starting out from the Portland area, a good first day's drive will land you at Mountain Home, Idaho, right on I-84. The second eastbound exit has a Walmart right at the exit. Plenty of free overnight trailer parking with a McDonalds across the street (in case your trying to feed a troop on the cheap).

Have a safe trip!
Jim
