No, my cables haven't broken.

But as the owner for several months now of a very well kept 2400 Classic (thanks Treeclimber!) I'm wondering, is it inevitable that at some point a cable will fail?

I intend to keep up good maintenance in lubing the cables, but I'm not great at that sort of thing.

So, are there long time Hi-Lo owners who've never had cables break? Can regular maintenance prevent there ever being an issue? Or, is it sort of inevitable at some point that one or more will break?

I should add that in addition to being a well maintained unit, it is dry stored in my pole barn here in Central Florida.

Hoping to hear that most never have a problem!

Lube with oil pulleys under the trailer as well as the pulleys in the walls. Wall pulleys can begotten to when top is raised. Use a spray oil lube, not WD-40, as it is a solvent.

It is inevitable that a cable will break. I had my last unit 13 years and had one cable break. Took it to J&R and had Rob & Jim replace all 4 cables. The other 3 had raised and lowered the same amount of times as the broken cable so had them replace all four. A chain is as strong as it's weakest link.

Another forum member recomended Break Free as a good product to use for pully and cable lubrication. It is found in the gun dept. at Walmart. It cleans protects and lubricates. It is about $8.00 a can. We have been using this product for years and DH likes it.

Blaster sells garage door lube, and also chain and cable lube that works well. They keep the cables lubed but don't collect dirt and dust. Walmart sells them.
