I have read through forums on replacing cables, I know I can get them from J&R. Also I have read where others have made the cables themselves but I am trying to figure out how to connect the end that is threaded to the cable itself. Also how long is that bolt. Any input would be appreciated.

Robin, that is called a swage stud and you use a swage tool to crimp it to the aircraft cable. YOU NEED TO USE A SWAGE TOOL IF YOU ARE GOING TO ATTEMPT THIS. Looks like Grainger may have the studs, but they aren't cheap. The only thing you need to worry about is if you have about 2" of thread for tightening or to loosen if need be. Here is the one on Grainger. Just make sure you don't buy left handed thread, they have both. B/A PRODUCTS CO.
