So I have my camper in the driveway getting ready for the summer. When I was done for the night I closed the door like I always do. When I went to go in it this morning it would not open. The handle pulls and has tension on it. It almost feels like the dead bolt is locked, but I don't have a key for it. Had anyone had this happen? How do I get in without destroying a window or the door.

Well the dead bolt did lock slightly. The louvered window next to the door was open so I was able to pop the screen out by pushing on the top corner then pushing up. I then fabricated a hook out of a steal coat hanger by straightening it out, folding it in half (for strength) then bending a 90° angle about 2 inches long at the end. I put it by the dead bolt inside the trailer and had my wife guide me. Her instructions were spot on because we got it open on the first try!

If you have a tip-out and it is in the "out" position, it can be manually pushed in enough to allow a smaller person to climb inside and unlock the door. We performed this trick at the Wisconsin National HiLo Rally. Just saying........

I didn't have a key for the dead bolt. I changed it out today with an old one I had laying around which is the same key for my house so no worries anymore. I hope.

Ours did this while on a trip, us in our PJs. Lol. Finally had to call the locksmith. He had it opened in about 2 minutes. It was the deadbolt he said. We now have an extra key hidden outside in one of those magnetic key holders.
