New Problem

I pulled the trailer out today and raised it up and was doing a little cleaning. Was running everything off 12 volt. I plugged in the trailer hook up to the truck the wrong direction. When I did I heard a click around the hydrolic unit. Went inside and I had no 12 volt power at all. I checked the fuse block and it looked ok. Tried to lower and it would not make a sound. I plugged into 110 volt and the 12 volt lights would work and the unit did lower. But it will not raise back up. It makes a clicking sound on the 110 power. Would appreciate any ideas. Could it be a relay of some sort. Did not see any other fuses or breakers to check.

I guess my first question is, how can you hook up to the truck wrong? I assume that you have the standard round 7 wire plug.

The click sound you heard may have come from a circuit breaker that should be somewhere inside the battery/pump compartment. It may have a reset button that needs pressed. There may be two of them. Just trace along the wiring and you should come onto it/them. I hope that is all that the problem is.

Rich-- I will start the trace and see if i can find some kind of breaker. I looked today and i could see nothing but, i will look again. I do have a 7 way plug -- it will let me plug it more that one way. When i saw tail light's [ which i was checking]was not working it make me check the plug and it was upside down. i changed it the tail lights worked but i lost all 12v power inside. Thanks for the help

I have a fuse panel inside my battery compartment. I would check there first.

you may want to change your 7-way plug/cord and outlet on your truck so this wouldn't happien again. It may take a while, but trace the wiring back from the lifting motor to the battery, check all fuses with an ohm meter. You can also check the circuit beaker with an ohm meter if the wires are taken off. This will tell you if bad fuse or circuit breaker. You might be able to just reset the circuit breaker by pressing reset button the breaker.

Well i found the problem. It was a breaker in the battery compartment. The best thing is i found the MANUEL to the trailer. It even has the bill of sale from 92 in it. Thanks for all the help -- I got our first trip coming up in a few week's and can not wait to try it out.Still got a few bugs to work out to have it ready but, we are nearly there.

david. FYI. Last season, my wife and I were camping in the U.P. of Michigan. The day we got ready to leav, unhooked everything, lowered trailer and hooked up to our truck. We started pulling out of the campground and I did one last check on all of the lights. Brake and turn signals worked, but no tail lights, either on our truck or trailer. had a fuse blown on the truck. Replaced it and bam, blew again. Traced and traced and traced. Finally found that the problem was where the main wiring harness, that plugs into my truck, had a very small rub sot on it at he tounge of the trailer. Insulated it and problem is gone.
