Hi everyone I just bought my first camper. It is a 1991 18ft HiLo camper. We are pulling it on my GMC Sierra V6. I am new to this whole experience and am unable to find a owner's manual. I have no idea how to empty the waste, put water in the tank, etc. Do you all know any where I can find some info on this. I really need to know the basics. Your help is much appreciated.

here is a link to a post with a manual for a 1990. http://www.hilotrailerforum.com/f49/owners-manual-1990-25ft-classic-2016/

The hi-los do not change much from year to year. If you can get close to the year you are in good shape.

Use the search function and headings to get started. For instance, you can put "emptying waste tanks" in the search thread and see what comes up. There is years and years of info on here.

Post questions one at a time or so and folks will be here to help.

Check the Library section for much information already downloaded to site.

Let us know where you are located, also.

And, WELCOME. :)

Welcome to the site

Welcome to the site. Lots of good info and good folks here on this site.
I found a lot of info for our hilo on this site. Hope that your hunt for info goes well.

Later Tim & Nancy & a dog that wants to go camping.

welcome

creyes 67, Welcome to the forum. We are here to answer your questions and will help in any way we can. What state are you from? Is your HiLo a Classic or a Towlite? Most important to do preventive maintenance.

Welcome to the forum. Most of your questions can be answered from the reference library. Also check out the owners manual on video.

Thank you

Thank you all for your help. We will take our first minitrip this weekend. I live in San Antonio, TX. I'm not sure if it is a Classic or a towlite? Not sure how to tell. It doesen't say anywhere. It just says HiLo. I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Thanks again.

You should be able to find something like 1891T or 1891C on the trailer or the title, which indicates Towlite or Classic.

Great. Thank you. Do you know if we need to purchas a braking system? The camper is 18 ft and we are towing it on an 09 GMC V6 truck. The truck has a transmission cooler already on it. Not sure how to tell if it has the braking system? Have you found any good parks near SA to camp?

The rule of thumb is, if it has brakes it needs a brake controller on the tow vehicle. Some states require the brakes to be operational if the trailer weighs more than 3000 or 3500 pounds. And some require a controller if the trailer has brakes regardless of weight. It's a good idea anyway, it's harder to stop with over a ton and a half pushing you down the road. If your truck has a factory brake controller it would be visible on the dash, if it has an after market controller it would most likely be mounted under the dash in a visible location. They look like these: Brake Controller | etrailer.com

For me, Safety is paramount

you need a brake controller/ associated wiring to make it all work. Mine cost me about $300 (parts and labor) from a camper parts and service center.

Cheap insurance.
