Painting or Covering the Walls

We have a 1995 or 96 - can't remember - Towlite HiLo that we bought for a good price however there are a couple "dry rot" spots on the walls and I wanted to somehow cover them/paint the whole interior. Any ideas?

I was actually thinking of something that would not outgas like Marmoleum (all-natural) floor linoleum that has adhesive on it to stick on the walls. It cuts easily, comes in a variety of colors and is easily washable....

Or? Well, I'm looking for ideas.

As far as the dry rot, my dh started taking things apart and was going tor reinforce the walls and discovered a previous owner had already done so---and he did a good job according to my dh.

Also, would love to see any pics of any that you have painted/customized. Ours is pretty tacky looking! LOL

Recovering the walls.

What is the wall covering that is on their now? is it wallpaper or paneling? The only consideration is that the wall can't be made too thick as it won't colapse properly. My walls consist of 1inch styrofoam,1/8 underlay and 1/8 paneling. Mine is a classic. Can you just cut out the dryrot sections and patch with 1/8 inch underlay. I have heard of using Laminate to recover,paintable wall paper,Using kilzprimmer and then painting. How about Georgia Pacific paneling that is 1/8. I got this at my ace hardwear,had to special order in. Go into any HD,Lowes and look at paneling. Do a search on the internet and see what you come up with. Just occured to me that you also have to be concerned with weight of wall material. I onlu used five sheets of paneling to do the upper half of my 25ft HiLo. I had enough drops left to do the lower BR walls as they were just plain white. I didn't have to do the ends and didn't have to do much past the sink window. How about some pretty vinyl wall paper.? If you are like me you will drive your self "nuts" until you come up with the perfect solution.

The wallcovering is wallpaper and is kind of wrinkled up/bunched up in the couple of dry rot spots.

Hmmmm.

Well, I'd love to see how others have cozied theirs up. the drapes they insltalled and venetian blinds have pulled out of the walls and there are screw holes.....

Mary Kay, have you posted any photos of the areas that are in rough shape? If you haven't please do, so we can see what you're up against. Hard to give advice without seeing what for damage is in your camper.

wrinkled wall paper

I have a 2002 and the wallpaper has pulled down. Kind of like it has shrunk. I think It is from heat I live in Vegas. Something to consider when using adhesives.

I'm not going to say this will remove all or even any of the wrinkles, but it did remove some of the wrinkles on our 'pulled' areas. I got my wife's iron and heated it up and ironed some of the creases out. If there is sufficient adhesive remaining under the paper, it should heat up and distribute the adhesive around and hopefully adhere to the paper. I did this just before putting the trailer away and I will be getting inside tomorrow [getting new tires and inspection sticker due] and see if any of them held. I thought about using a syringe and shooting some fresh adhesive under the paper to see if that would work. If you try it, don't let the iron get too hot and do keep it moving. A thin piece of cloth placed over the area while ironing might be advisable.

Since you live in Vegas, I heard on the radio today that Nevada is expected to have record highs for the next couple of days; 125 degrees was possible! Stay Cool!!

Material on walls

Some of my wallpaper had dried out and lost some of its glue. Some areas I slit with a razor blade,peeled back the wallpaper and used my finger or q-tip to apply wallpaper glue. HD and Walmart sell a tube of repair wallpaper glue.DH says if your blinds are falling out of the screw holes maybe your interior walls are shot. The only thing behind the 1/8 paneling is 1/8 underlay. Anyone who does a total rebuild/restoration is wise to reinforce the area where curtains/blinds will be screwed into. Would JR in Ohio have any of the same wall panel for you to purchase?
