Platform Bed Completed

I removed the sofa bed in my 2307C and replaced it with a platform bed. Some of the features included:
- Gas struts to make it easy to access the storage area under the platform.
- LOTS more storage. We'll use storage tubs that we can move around.
- Footrests (so two can sleep going lengthwise) that extend out (supported by removable legs) and slide back in ... think shallow, upside-down drawers. Stops and roller catches keep them at the extended and retracted positions.
- The mattress is a double size (standard sheets, etc.).
- That left room for another cubby storage area on the door side of the trailer.
- Two hatch doors on the front of the platform for stashing shoes and dirty laundry.
- 110 outlets on the new side cubby and front of platform.
- The show faces were 1/4" oak ply and oak edging finished with Minwax Polyshades (pecan, satin).

That's pretty, Darryl. So, as I understand it, you now have an "always ready" bed and have given up "seating area"? (Except on the bed.) The gas strut support idea is a real winner!

Yes, we found that we always had the sofa in the bed position, which made the storage inaccessible. And it was difficult to make the bed because you couldn't lift the cushions. So now we have a very comfortable bed and lots of very useful storage.

Great job Camper! We too like a real bed, but also want to entertain. Some of the lower cabinetry was already removed when I got my 2000 24' Classic, so I moved the 12v water pump/filler hoses and the charger. Then installed a prefect fitting queen sized futon. Undress the bed-seating. Unfold--make bed! Like you, we have plenty of storage.

Good question! And what was there originally (I'm not familiar with the Classic floorplan)?

Originally it was a "U" shaped dinning table in front. Prior owner did a mod to allow for a full sized mattress. For me, that didn't look quite right, so I moved the water pump forward a few inches reshaping the filler hoses as needed. Added a few inches of wire to move the charger forward and placed the circuit breaker panel against the refer. Put wheels on each corner of the futon which ride in a 1/2" rabbit or datto cut into a 2 X 4 screwed to the floor. Also modified the city water fill to make an immediate 90 degree downturn. The 2 X 4 forms a channel near the wall to allow for the wires and water pipes. I put the fitted sheets on the mattress THEN open it to a bed. This pulls the sheets tight. Iin the morn, I fold it to a couch and remove the linens, no struggle. I did the upper bunk mod a while back and this is the storage for the linens. At the same time I moved the only 120v outlet in that area (for the charger) forward and ran wire to curbside front skirt to mimic the one in the back. This gives me power at the front of the unit. As Camper discovered, this allows for tons more storage, but my entire mod shed almost 44lbs (including what's stored) up front!

Our 24' had two dinettes. We removed the larger front dinette and put in a platform that holds a King size bed. Here some before and after pics.

I like the look of that! How did you modify your top bunk for linen storage? And do you have any space on the side of the futon near the door or does it go all the way to the wall?

Snappy, After completing this mod, I had NO room on either side of the futon. It was truly a perfect fit. Grasp the front rail of the frame, pull, and it fell into a bed. Grasp the back frame rail, pull up and push the front, and it forms a couch. We used plastic storage bins on nonskid foam sheets (cabinet liner) to prevent sliding for under bed storage. The upper bunk has a mod in the "search" topic above. Pretty simple, but very useful. A bit of cable, crimps, and time and your done.
