I bought a 1988 27' Bon Voyage Hi-Lo to put on my hunting land in Maine permanently. If it ever leaves there, it will be because it is going to the junk pile. I got it real cheap because it has a busted raiser cable and I suspect the others are in bad shape. I was told that they are not too bad to change so I am looking into this prospect. But as another potential, I was wondering if I got it raised up, could I lock it into place and just leave it? Per the responses Shari253 got, it looks like some support posts may be in order. That's not too bad, but do I have to jack it, or could 8 to 12 man bulls raise it and lock it in? Obviously you are dealing with a rookie here on this stuff so after you stop laughing let me know what you think! Thanks!:)

The cables still hold the top up even in the locked position. The lock is on the hydraulic cylinder that pulls the cables. The 2X4s are the only way to hold it up when the cables are broke. The top on a 27 foot is going to be very heavy, I would recommend jacking it up.

Your post didn't make me laugh. Many of our members have changed their own cables. I think you were given the info on this. After you have done this seal your roof. Then I would highly recommend that you remove each window ,wrap the window curve with butyl tape and reinsert.Cut off excess tape that squishes out. Then apply lexel caulk to exterior where fiberglass meets the window trim. Make sure you check all caulk on the entire trailer. I have a post under off topic 1990 HiLo restoration on how to do this window removal. All trailer that are ten years old need to do this window treatment. A lot of work initialy, but it pays big dividends in the long run. Another reason to do the window deal is because better butyl tape is now available. The old black seal got hard and is ineffective. When you remove the window you can see if you have any wall wetness, rot. Where are you located? city state.
