I just bought a 1999 26 ft hi lo, the first time I put it up everything went fine. Now the saftey switch is not working, and it goes down without pulling the cabel. Can anyone tell me what to look for, and is it safe to use? Thanks for any help.

The cable is mechanical; its not a switch. Get some spray grease. Crawl underneath. Have somebody push, pull, and wiggle the cable. This will allow you to see where it attaches. You will find it goes into a metal bar that runs front to back on the right side of the chassis . All the cable does is pull the bar up. Lubricate where the bar pivots and where it slides up and down. Reach in with a tool handle, hammer, etc and move the bar down. Have the helper pull and release the cable a few times. Once the bar moves freely you are good to go.

If the safety bar is sticking and not dropping into place when the top is fully raised then Raul's advice could cure the problem. If this does not correct the problem then the top may not be raising fully (high enough) for the bar to drop into place. This could be due to the cables having stretched enough that the top does not raise fully. They only have to stretch 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch to cause this. Stretching of the cables is normal and there is a way to adjust the cables to correct this. First make sure the hydraulic reservoir is not low on fluid. As you are new to HiLo My advice is not to anything unless you know for sure what you are doing. Do you have a owners manual? If not look here on the forum for one and download it. I am on a camping trip so don't have time tonight to go in fully with more info but will get back tomorrow. Many others here on the forum will help, just ask. Let us know what you are able to do as far as maintance on the HiLo.

Merlerowe, Forget what I said about cable stretch. So late my brain is not working as it should. I will get back in the morning when I am fresh and have had my coffee. Been a long day. JIM
