They do make chemicals for the holding tanks. Not only do they help with the smell but they also help to break down the waste product. Definately use a chemical. They can be found at any rv store or Walmart. Also before you leave on your next trip, pour a couple of bags of ice down the toilet. As you drive the ice will create a scrubbing action and help break loose any waste stuck to the bottom of the black tank. The melted ice will keep everything wet until you get to your campground and can dump the tanks.

I have never heard that hint before. What a great idea!!! I will do that in the future!
