Satellite aiming meter

Still researching my getting Direct TV at home and carrying a receiver with a dish when we are camping. Therefore I'd have to set up the dish in a campground. Trying to read up on that and get smart on setting up a dish.
See several devices available that one can use to align the dish. The prices range from affordable (my price range) to big bucks that I don't really want to spend.
Does anyone use any type meter in setting up a dish? If so can you please share what kind, model etc?

Thanks for the information. I even found a video on youtube that shows a guy using one like this (may not be Radio Shack) to align a disk. It looks like a quicker way than what my son showed me by watching the TV screen and checking for signal strength. Thanks again for your help.

Hello Friends,

When you "peak" your dish, you make sure that the strongest signal gets to your satellite box, reducing pixilation, picture freezes, and "Searching For Satellite" messages. All of our meters work with DirecTV systems. Some (specified in the description) also work with Dish Network. Both the dish and the meter need power to operate. All meters will work when connected in-line between the satellite receiver and the satellite dish because the receiver provides the power. Some meters (specified in the description) have their own power supply (plug-in or battery) that provides the power. In this case, no receiver is required to align the dish.
Only experienced installers should try to align a dish without a receiver. This feature is more often used when performing a "site survey"; Walking around carrying a dish and meter to different locations on a property to see where a signal can be received.
