I have seen it stated by some folks that they will not use silicone caulk on their RV. Can someone please explain why?

Thanks!
Jeff

Great post, Jeff. I'd like the answer too. I use silicone almost everywhere and find it superior to just about anything else. It never seems to fail, even when subjected to "flexing" or other movement. I tend to use the kind that can be painted over though, because that's what I normally do.

Me too! I'm sure there are other products that work as well if not better.

I prefer not to use silicon caulking because it has no UV protection. UV rays breaks down the silicon which can cause the caulk to fail.

I use a polyurethane caulking commonly known as Sikaflex 1A for all my seams on the trailer since is has UV protection.

I stay away from tripolymer because it has rubber as an ingredient that tends to dry out and crack.
