Does anyone have ideas about what stays will work to hold up the storage pod lids or any creative method that will support the lid in the open position ? It is difficult to retrieve or place items inside or access the black/grey water tank outlet when the storage pod lid keeps falling in the way.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

ckindle,

This has always been a problem for HiLo owners because the telescoping top does not allow space for the standard outside door catches to be permanently mounted without potential damage to the top seal. I have always wondered why they did not build the storage bins with the door opening downward instead of upward. If I had need for the bin door to remain open for loading/unloading, I carried around a telescoping/spring loaded adjustable curtain rod or just a plain old stick to hold it up. I had thought about Velcro but it would be a continual task regluing or replacing making it more trouble than it is worth. You could use a standard door catch but you would have to remove it every time you lowered your rig and if you ever forgot... Plus, it would make a permanent hole in the side so that was never an option for me. Of course, duct tape could always be used:).

I finally figured out a simple way to support an open storage pod lid. All I had to do is bend a 6" mending plate and bolt it on so that it could be turned upwards to hold the lid open. It works pretty good and the door still closes just fine.

Wow! Great idea, ckindle. I think I'll do that on my pods too. Thanks for posting this.

ckindle,

What a great idea; good for you. I'm sure many of the forum members will appreciate your sharing. I'm trying to figure out your picture with the frame around the border; what is the reason for the wooden frame that surrounds the interior opening? Was that necessary to accommodate your metal door prop?

jcurtis95 - I believe what you may be referring to is weather stripping around the outside border.

Poprichie - Yes, that is a great idea for the dump hose storage pod since it does not have a middle support at all. I plan to use this idea for that pod.
