Swing down bunk roll off guard?

Our 3 year old has claimed the swing down bunk as his own which I am completely fine with. He has slept up there a few times without incident but of course it makes both the wife and I a bit nervous.

Has anyone crafted a Bed Board (roll off guard) some way of keeping him from rolling off I was thinking of just getting a U bracket and some wood that fits snugly in the u bracket. Mounting the u bracket(s) to the front of the bunk and then the board can be added / removed by sliding it in and out?

Anyone else done something similar?

We use a ready made guard for our granddaughter. It is plastic and it slips under the edge of the mattress like a fork lift. It stands about 15" high and adjusts in length from about 40" to about 60". We got it 20+ years ago from J C Penney for our son when he was a little guy. Now at age 24 he refuses to use it. Check with Walmart, Target, Walgreens, Amamzon, etc. or Google it.

Did your swing down bunk come with a removable ladder? If yes, then instead of using a separate board, you could bolt a couple of U-brackets to the outside of the ladder's side rail and presto... a roll out prevention fence.

Incidently, this isn't my idea. This was standard equipment from Hi-Lo some 40 years ago. In my '69 Hi-Lo Bon Voyage, I used it to keep my kids safely tucked in, and now its keeping the grandkids safe.

We don't have the ladder but I think I will pick one up at walmart.

I see that this is an older post, but I have a 4 year old that has claimed the bunk. I was wondering if you might have a pic of the U-brackets or maybe could explain to me what they are. I'm just drawing a blank on what you're describing. Thank you!!

We put a large foam "fun noodle" under the fitted sheet at the edge and it provides enough of a lip that it would be difficult to roll over.

Just google "bed rails" and you will get a whole page of stores that have them. Just pick out the length you want (short or long) and the price you are willing to pay.

This is what we got for our granddaughter to use on the bunk. It slips under the edge of the mattress and is held in place by the front bed frame/rail.
