I am heading cross country from Wisconsin to Colorado this summer. It is a trip I have made many many times over the years but not recently and never in a travel trailer ( driving straight through, crashing in my truck, or motels in the past) . Anybody have a favorite route? Im heading for Durango so its likely I 80 or I 70- with I 80 always being my stand by. Places to over-night? Or- any good aps for route planning with a trailer? i have ALL-Stays, which isnt bad-but I was just wondering if there are others out there that folks have used? Second week in June so I dont know if Im looking at reservations at night for over-nights. I miss the days when you could just locate a campground somewhere, pull in, and toss up a tent.

thanks

rick

If you are a Good Sam member you can use the trip planner in their website. I've found that it works pretty well. You can put in various parameters and it will suggest a route. It will also ID rest stops, campgrounds, etc:
RV travel – trip planning tools and information from Good Sam Club

There are also a few campground finder apps that you can download to a phone or tablet. We've used one in the past with good results.

This might be a good source for you too: RV Camping

It appears to list both private and Federal/State campgrounds.

In the western States, I tend to use the Recreational State maps while traveling, since they show camping spots.

We recommend that you get paper maps from AAA or another source. When we were traveling through the Rockies last summer, we discovered that we didn't have cell service most of the time. As a result, the All-Stays app on our tablet or cell phone was useless.
