Walking or Standing on Roof better when up or down for roof maintenance??

I need to do some regular maintenance on the roof of 1996 FunLite 21FLL and I am wondering is it better to do the caulking and roof seal/coating when its up or down..

Is it more sturdy to walk on the roof to get the roof maintenance complete when the Hi-Lo is down vs up?

I understand the roof is the same either way but is it suggested in the manual or from personal experiences that the Hi-Lo should be up vs down for a particular reason?

I don't think it matters as far as the roof is concerned, but it's a lot farther to the ground if you fall off when the roof is up. I always have the roof down when I get on it.

Better to have it down, the trailer is more stable and it avoids anything running down the side walls,especially if you are using a liquid sealer. Beside the shorting of the falling distance, or getting down to pick up what you dropped.

Roof Maintenance

DH always does roof maintenance in the down position. I try to be on site to help him so he doesn't have to climb down. Tip...use blue or yellow painters tape to get crisp lines. DH tapes off where the roof ends and the body begins. Pull the tape off immediately. Usually does two coats to the roof. When finished coating then the roof tape is removed.

It depends on what your roof is made of. Mine is aluminum and I would use white elastomeric paint over that. If, however, your roof is rubber, then there is a special coating for that. But I don't know what it is, you should look online for "rubber roof coatings" or something like that.

DH used Kool Seal from our RV dealer. I am sure you could purchase something off the internet.
