Talking Need an escape hatch vent cover only...

for my 1987 Hi-Lo Fun chaser... anyone have any luck finding one? Measures 22 x 22" (OD to OD of cover, not the actual unit).

Thank you in advance everyone

You just need to look up "RV window escape hatch" on the internet. There are several mfg's and sizes that are available which include replacement covers. Ward

Have a local HVAC sheet metal shop fabricate one for you, they could even make one out of stainless steel

Thanks everyone! But, the hatch unit itself is good, no leaks. The cover is cracked and I noticed a piece missing. Any thoughts on where to look for the manufacturer name so I can order the right cover? I'm not going through putting a whole new hatch in - way beyond my expertise

GIGI
What you are looking for is hard to find.
Made by VENTLINE #V2047

It took me a month to find this item.
I finally found and purchased from dexteraxle.com They are the manufacture of our axles.

Here is the one I believe you need, but Dexter had no listing.
Heng's Replacement Lids for Exit Vents
or go to Tweetys.com

The hole size is 20 x 20, but dome lid is 22 x 22. Do a search on the site for "escape hatch"

I have an 1985 funchaser and the old one was no longer usable.

Thank you thank you thank you, Steve! Just ordered it but it doesn't come with a seal/gasket - has anyone made their own and if so, would you point me in a direction please

I don't know what gasket you are referring to.

I installed a thin insulating molding trim piece on top of the non-hinge sides(3). 1/4 x 3/8" one side sticky. Apply the seal to the metal box not the lid!

If you do this, don't immediately crank down the lid and leave it. It will stick to the new lid/top and peel away on first use. Let it set lightly touching the seal and cure or put in a strip of wax paper of plastic wrap to keep from sticking.(remove on your next outing)

You are welcome. Finding old parts is a pain, and why not help if you have already down the research.

Yes, sir, it is the seal - the man I spoke with at Tweety's called it a gasket lol. You are all such a wealth of information. I am fixing things one at a time - it's never ending I just replaced the propane water heater unit with an electric - best decision I've made yet. Next, fix the heater...

Thank you for all of the help. This forum is a lifesaver - I just love my trailer!

Well, I received the new lid but it's not right. This was the third one I've tried. The new one measures 21-1/2" x 21-1/2". It needs to be a true 22 x 22", as the OD of this lid I just received is the exact size of the OD of the hatch so it won't fit down over it - sits on top of it, flush with the edges of the actual hatch. Second issue is hinge on the new hatch is almost 1/3 longer than the original. The third issue is the slide mechanism that opens the hatch - the new hatch is totally different. This is what my old one looks like inside the way the slide mechanism works in the screen. See attached please.

Default Getting escape vent hatch

GiGi,Try my HiLo dealer. We got one from him a while ago. I don't know if he has any more. They will ship parts anywhere. Mantelli Trailer sales.Jay Simon in parts..1-716-625-8877. Maybe a year ago I checked with JR in Ohio and he had none. If Jay doesn't have one then check both places in Ohio. Last resort have a metal fab shop make one up for you. Hope this helps you.

Sam, I will give him a call Monday Was yours the same diameter 22 x 22 not 21.5 x 21.5? And on the fab shop end, I work for an off-road race team in their shop - hmmm, I'll save this one as a last resort, as it's not as simple as making just a cover due to the hinge and slide mechanism inside to open it.

GIGI
sorry your purchase didn't work out.
Mine was perfect. Advertised as a 22 x 22, and was exact.
Mine was a Ventline product and the mount was also a Ventline.

When you get this worked out be sure to come back and update for others.

I think I see why the prior owner tried to repair it himself I'm going to win this battle and when I find the part, I will share it with you all. I am pretty good at finding and getting what I want haha

Default Escape vent cover

GiGi,We have been covering our escape vent on the exterior with a contractor garbage bag to keep it from the sun. We had the replacement up in our attic and DH took a measurement from the white lid. It measures 16x23. Our HiLo is a 199025ft. Classic. If you were to make one out of metal you would loose a light source in the RV. The white lid lets light in. I hope Jay can help you.

I need to replace mines as well. the lid is all cracked up and being held down with duct tape. I am unforsure of the size needed but the lid measures 17x24. But when I google that it give me an entire exit vent housing and the lid is smaller. do I need to just replace the whole unit?
