I have a '69 Tow Low which does have an awning rail and since I have a couple of A&E awnings laying around I would like to install one. The question is; Does A&E put out a different style of shorter or scissor style arms that will work? I know I have seen them on HI Lows before. If any one knows please message me back. Thanks

Getting awning

I would look up A&E awning on the internet. See if they have a phone # for tech support. Our awning is from Carefree of Colorade and we recently was able to get parts for our 26yr. old awning. The Tech support was fantastic. I think this would be their off season.

I believe this subject was discussed a short time ago. You may want to do a search for awnings and maybe you will find the thread.

A&E, part of Dometic, made most of the Hi-Lo awnings and I'm sure they have what you need but may have to go through a dealer to get it. You will need to get the bottom supports to hold the bottom of the arms and those would only be available from JR Repair or Midget. Or, could go to the trouble of making them yourself.

Keep in mind that you will also need these to attach to the lower half.

When my original blew up in 2015. I found that no parts were available for anything older than 10 years, anywhere. From the A&E manuf.

You should call A&E with your issue.
you will need length, ht set up and down.
If new is what you want

I bought a new tarp on ebay and made fittings with old parts from cars, Hanggliders, plumbing. total less than $150.
I will complete install with tuning while in Death Valley in 2 weeks.

My biggest question would be, can the trailer siding support it? If an awning was not originally supplied, the siding may not have the proper blocking underneath to support the attachment. First big wind gust and you may get an unpleasant surprise!

I'm assuming this has wood framing?

I think you will find that all the trailers were built to accommodate awnings. The rail at the top edge should already have channel for the awning to slide into. What will need to be added are the bottom mounting brackets where the arms mount. You will have to get those from JR Repair because they aren't generic with other trailer makes.

The framing on later year models had metal. Mainly Classics had steel frames and Towlite after about 1999 Jade aluminum frames, wood prior to that.
