What is the Plastic Line For?

Wrascal If your plastic line is clear, you are fortunate since you have no leakage, seepage, whatever. A lot of us have some red fluid in the plastic line. As long as it is not EXCESSIVE. As NORTON RIDER's pictures show the plastic line is a vent so the piston can extend easily.

    Help request on Wheels

Wheels and Jacking Here is my 2 cents. Hi-Lo tires have very close clearance with the trailer body and wheel well. I have had instances where I had to "jockey" the trailer up and down to get a tire on and off. In general I try to jack up under the frame somewhere letting the wheel sag a...

What is the Plastic Line For?

Norton Rider Cylinder Picture. Great picture. So that is where the piston seals and wipers are! I note that my Hi-Lo manual says " inspect cylinder and fix IF EXCESSIVE LEAKAGE". I guess this would be a plastic line full of red fluid. I would raise the top about half way and STOP. If it...

What is the Plastic Line For?

Plastic Line Routing Probably ease of construction and save $. Otherwise you would route out of battery box, into trailer, thru furnace compartment, behind dinette, and into compartment where master switch is located. Easier to route under trailer and up to master switch.

What is the Plastic Line For?

What is under trailer? On mine there are the following lines 1. Steel hydraulic line, from pump to hyd. cyl.2. Plastic cylinder vent line, from hyd cyl back to pump 3. Propane gas line to appliances, furnace, stove, refrig. 4. Plastic line which protects wiring from front to master switch...

What is the Plastic Line For?

Plastic Line OK, this one did not generate too much interest. So here is the summary as I see it. 1. When the top raises, high pressure fluid flows from the pump thru the steel line to the cylinder, extending it. 2. When you hit the lower switch, it opens a valve at the pump and fluid...

What is the Plastic Line For?

About 1 1/2 years ago I had to remove and repair the hydraulic cylinder. The piston rod was bent 1/2" and jammed. New rod, seals, wipers and parts and re-assembled without too much difficulty. While I was at it I temporarily reassembled the system on the A-frame to check it out before...

    Lowering problem solved...Yahoo

Lowering Problem- Hydraulic Cylinder I went thru a removal, repair, and re-installation of the hydraulic cylinder about a year ago. Here is what I learned. 1. The Hydraulic Cylinder is a "plain Jane" type used on all kinds of equipment. Just look at any front end loader, garbage truck, fork...

    The Top Rubber Hard Stops

Top rubber stops 2 1/2 years ago I had 3 out of 4 rubber stops that were deteriorated, loose, etc. My solution was to cut small squares from an old tire and epoxy glue in place. It has worked fine for the time. I used the epoxy that is 50/50 mix and good for exterior service.

    hydraulic cylinder removal?

Hydraulic Cylinder Removal, Replacement, Repair In Aug of 2010 I went thru the same thing. Take a look at the following threads that I posted under the Hydraulic Lift System. Hydraulic Cylinder Parts: 8-10-2010 Part I, Cylinder Removal: 8-19-2010 Part II, Forces: 8-22-2010 Part III...

    Hydraulic lift pump rebuild/refurbish

Replacement, repair of Hydraulic Cylinder. I went thru the removal, repair, and re-installation of my 17 ft Hi-Lo in 2010. Refer to this one in the archives. Hydraulic Cylinder Repair, Replacement, Part I, 8-19-2010, Ed Lansing. In my case I had the work done by a Auto Repair Shop who did...

    Hi-Lo lift mechanism

cables & pulleys After doing a complete re-work of lift cylinder and cables I can tell you some answers I have observed. 1. You can get at all the pulleys and cables for inspection and lube work. You crawl under the trailer and you will clearly see them. Inside the unit just remove the trim...

    Caulking tip

Smooth Caulking Sam is the man! I just re-caulked my front window and I tried 4 different techniques: 1. Just the caulk tube and gun, applied very carefully 2. The Spit-finger 3. Silicone spray on the finger 4. WD-40 on the finger Methods 3 and 4 were far superior to me. Real easy to...

    Hydraulic Pump leaking

Reservoir Leak If the leak is in the plastic reservoir ( no pressure ) I have had luck with JB Plastic Weld Epoxy. You must be able to get at the problem area, thourghly clean with solvent, rough the surface, apply and let set 24 hr. It has worked for me . Must be clean. Cost about $ 5...

hi lo wont raise unless on battery

Battery Voltage Ditto to the above posts. You must have a fully charged battery to deliever that "punch" of eletric energy to run the pump ( just like a car starter ). For the record my auto tech books tell me the following between battery voltage and state of charge ( ability to run the...

    High-Low up time?

Hi-Lo up time. Great Info so far on this topic. Let me get my 2-cents in on this. 1. Weight on the cables. When the unit goes up the weight is on the four cables. The safety bar drops in place (just like a door stop) and locks the cylinder in the up position. If there is any leakage the...

    2003 17ft towlite - won't raise - is it motor?

Won't go up Batteries can be deceiving sometimes. You can charge on and it will appear to have a full charge, but if any one of the 6 cells is weak it can preclude having enough energy to engage and run the lift motor. The motor is a high torque type which requires a 100% charged battery (...

    2003 17ft towlite - won't raise - is it motor?

Won't go up. Amen to all of the previous posts that finger the battery. This is the usual culprit and should be checked first before you tear into the motor. The HiLo RV system is very similar to a car system. Sometimes the battery can have a little charge. The lights work, horn works,etc...

    92 hi-lo not raising/lowering with switch

The black switch is the master and the white switch is the up-down switch. There is a 15 amp fuse between them. Remove the screws and pull the switches out and it could be blown. ( Unless of course someone in the past has fiddled with it and changed the set-up )
