Does anyone have any experience with bug zappers?

More to the point, what if anything do you take camping with you, to protect you from mosquitos ?

Bug zaper's

In Louisiana a bug zaper and Off yard gard is a must. I have made a hanger for the bug zaper on my awning and plug it into the same cord as the awning lights. When you camp in Louisiana Part of the set up is to spray the tires and any thing that aints can come up on with aint spray go around the trailer and spray the gasket with yard gard from the out side. On the inside my Wife puts faberic soffner sheets about every 8 to 10 feet between the upper and lower sections this works good to keep the bugs out. We also use a yellow lins cover on the porch light.

Will you use the Thermacell inside or outside the Hi-Lo?

I found some reviews on it, and it's very well rated and seems reasonably priced.

I will use it outside the camper, but close enough to the door to eradicate pests from coming close to the front door. That way it is not needed inside, even though it isn't toxic chemicals that remove the bugs. I's a natural oil they truly dislike. :)

Their website, ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent , says this about pets. NOTE that their website says for outdoor use only.

"There is a small amount of vapor (d-cis/trans allethrin) released from the mat during normal operation. It presents no health hazard for use outdoors with adults, children (please do not let children play with the product) and pets. The EPA of each of the 50 states plus the Federal EPA have registered the ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent. They evaluated it for safety and functionality as well as environmental impact. Skin toxicity, inhalation toxicity and oral toxicity were a part of the information reviewed by the EPA during the registration process."

RE bug zapppers.

Since the manner in which they work is to "entice" the critters to come get crisped, move them 25 to 50 feet AWAY from your rig. You'll find a lot less bug invovlement that way. We learned this one while tent camping years ago. If we were in a close quartered campground we never put ours out because our neighbor's worked for our campsite as well. (doesn't work for ants though..darn it)

I like Yard Guard, but had never heard of thermacell...gotta check that one out.

If you have the extra interior socket, those plug in sonic pest controllers really work. As long as the sonic waves are not blocked by furniture, walls etc they put out a invivisble pattern that the buggies don't like. I have one in my stix'n'brix and only the flies seem immune to it...keeps the pesky spiders away, too.
