Looking for help figuring out roughly what year and model I have. I also wonder how tough it is to replace the seal for upper and lower myself. I was a mechanic before I retired.
This is my first post. I have pics of my unit, but I don't see how to post them here???
This unit appears to be about 24 ft. with a right side rear door, bathroom in the back, settee in the front, couch on the left side.
Oops, I think I found the attachments mark.............I am trying to send it with this.
I also have a question regarding the AC hookup. I have the cord down below and it is a female end.....the cord up above is also a female end. Did someone try to change this or is there a male to male adapter? this is an outside connection.
Thanks for any advice or help................I have no paper on this. It was given to me............

Hi Gordon,

You wrote the trailer didn't have any "paper." Hope you at least have a title! If it did come with a title, look for the model number... and from that it can be determined what year it was made. For example, Model 2704T means it is rated at 27' length, and was offered in the '04 year catalog, the "T" means its a Towlite version. Also, for some time, Hi-Lo did put the model numbers on the outside of the trailer, somewhere on the sides. These were/are readily visible stickers.

Regarding the power connection, assuming "AC" refers to "alternating current," and not "air conditioner," it does seem odd that you are only seeing female outlets. Are you sure those aren't simply exterior outlets for plugging in lights or other accessories? Older Hi-Lo's did have a "male" outlet for hooking up the female end of a "shore" power cord; more modern Hi-Lo's have the shore power cord permanently attached to the trailer and kept coiled in a storage "pod." I can't speak for all Hi-Lo's, but the storage pod holding our shore power cord is low on the forward left side of the trailer, and actually looks like a panel cover on the skirt.

Hope this helps,
Jim

Hi again Gordon,

Just reread your post, and I'm afraid I didn't help you at all with your "AC" question. I assumed you were referring to installed outlets, but you clearly wrote about cords. I'm not sure what to tell you about those.

Regarding a seal change out, there is a procedural outline in this site's Reference Library, under the Unsorted heading. In that location you also find instructions about how to download a picture.

Hey---wow quick action my my "dumb" post. I am brand new at this and it looks like I will get some answers...maybe not what I want, but at least I am getting started.....Thanks.
The ac I refered to is A/C air-conditioning. Hope that more sense.
Also I do not have any papers....noda! The guy I got it from was in a big hurry to leave his place "right now" and wanted it out of there. NO LICense plates either. I looked for stickers and didn't find any outside. I know I am going to have a job with dMV Calif. but I am in Mexico right now for my winter vacation...(without trailer.)

The serial number may be stamped on the frame. Some models it was on the A frame near the hitch. Contact JR Repair and maybe they can tell you.
You sure it isn't stolen?

Gordon,

Okay, your question wasn't "dumb." If it was, you prolly would have been ignored.

Regarding the air conditioner (A/C) cord, if yours is similar to ours, the cord from the A/C unit is stored in one of the ceiling mounted cabinets and is accessed through a large plastic grommet-like fitting with a hinged cover. Just open the cover, fish the cord down and plug it in to the proper outlet, which should be the only 20 amp outlet in the trailer.

Also, in our trailer, there is a VIN sticker (with Mod. No.) inside a lower cabinet door (a sink cabinet door in our case).

You'll prolly have a VERY tough time titling and registering this Hi-Lo without any existing paperwork... might be easier if you just towed it to Mexico. I've heard they aren't particularly concerned with the details of legal vehicle ownership south of the border. ;)

Good luck, Jim

Thanks again for your attention.................My extension cord for the A/C is outside in the lower compartment with the regular electric cord for shore power. the connection is outside above to plug in the A/C . I have heard they had two different ways as your method suggests. I wish I knew the model of this thing, cause I would like to start ordering parts from here so that when I return to US I could start on it. It is about 24 ft over all and about ??20 in the main box.maybe 19.

Hey-----------am I positive it ain't stolen...............hmmmmmmm no. It is thrashed enough that I assumed ya, I know. Before any big $ goes into it I am going to try at the DMV first. It could be one of those "too good to be true" I know, I know.
I checked the frame for numbers---even stamped numbers and found nothing.......

Found the library on the seal change..............whew. sounds like a job....... all that 2x4's and so on.........................gotta think bout that one............thanks

Hi - new member here as well. I just got an old HiLo as well. Mine is a 1989 model. I too have the power cord that plugs in for the AC. It is pretty simple on mine - there is a cord in the lower compartment that has a female end. The outlet at the top has a male end. You simply plug it in. Here's a few pics:

The first one you can see the cord - top and bottom. Then a couple close ups.

(I'll be having a few questions of my own soon! ;) )

Fishermark,
Thanks for the clarification. A picture is worth a thousand words! The A/C power supply is set up differently than I was expecting. Your trailer falls into the generation gap between my two, when Hi-Lo did things differently as they evolved.

Jim

ah, ha! that is what I thought. Mine has a female at the cord.....for safety. and a female at the top..................???? someone messed with it before I got it. Thank you and that is really a clean one you have..............................

Check on the inside of the trailer for the 12v fuse panel. It could be located anywhere, sometimes in the wardrobe cabinet, under a couch, etc. For a while, the HiLo factory placed a white label on the 12v fuse panel cover. It listed all the info you are seeking.
