Just bought camper, got some questions!

Hello all, I found this forum very helpful before we bought our hi lo. Now we have purchased a hi lo that is 24' long, and so far I love it!! :) We have had pop ups and TTs but this thing is amazing!! I pulled it over 100 miles yesterday with no WD or sway control or anything and it pulled great. Anyways, on to the questions.

1.) Where do I find out the year/model of my camper?

2.) My camper has a box under it that has one 30amp electrical cord, and one 110 cord, both coming out of the same area. I thought it was for the A/C but the AC has a male end and this 110 cord is also a male end??? Maybe someone put the wrong end on it?? The guy we bought it from was using a separate 110 extension cord to power the AC.

3.) Is there some way you are supposed to lubricate the cables on the lift system, mine go up and down fine, just wondering for the longevity aspect of the cables.

4.)Has anyone ever had to replace the cables on their hi lo?? Just wondering how much it costs and/or how hard it is to do it.

5.) Lastly, where can I find owners manuals, etc. for these campers?? Just wondering.

Congratulations Caillac man. I have a 2001 24'. I can't answer all your questions but a few I can.

1. There should be a plate on it with this info. Also your title should have it.
2. the smaller cord should have originally plugged into a male plug in the roof right above the box. This powered the A/C. if the past owner was using a seperate cord to A/C then that plug probably isn't conected to anything anymore.
5. in the references library section of this site there are many manuals to download. Years change some but general info is the same.

I'm sure you'll get some better answers. There are a lot of helpful people on this board.
 
Welcome to the Hi-Lo family. The model number will be on the title/registration forms and on a data plate on the left side front of the top half or maybe on the tongue. May also be on the spec sheet on the inside of one of the cabinet doors. An example of the model would be 2805C With 28 being the length in feet and 05 the year (2005). The cables should be lubed with a spraylub such as WD40. The cables should be good for decades unless they have been stressed by The top being Jammed when raising it. If the cables have somehow rubbed against metal during operation this could cause some of the wires to break. To inspect for broken wires wrap a small piece of cloth around the cable and slide it along the cable and it will catch on any broken wires. Lube the pulleys and look for any cracks or flat spots on them. Download the owners manual, read it and keep asking questions. What state do you live in and what are you towing with? Good luck.
 
On the lift system be sure to check, clean, and lube the guide rod. That is the rod that is mounted parallel with the hydraulic cylinder. Failure to maintain that could result in a bent cylinder. It is often overlooked and is a very important part of the lift system. Also, while under there check the safety catch for proper operation. That is the thing that is attached to the other end of the cable that you pull when you lower the top.
 
Just got a new HI-Lo

Welcome to the forum. Ask as many questions as you need to. I am still learning things about the Hi_lo that we have owned for 15 years. Another Hi-Lo owner recomended that Winchester Break Free CLP be used to lubricate the cables and guides. It is a cleaner,lubricant and preservative. This can be purchased in the sporting goods -gun section of walmart. Wd 40 traps dirt. I think it sells for around $3.00. Spray the outside long tracks with silicone spray. Is your trailer tolwlite or a classic/heavier weight. Post any pictures of your trailer. Best of luck in all your Hi-Lo adventures.
 
Just bought camper

Re read your post. You do need wd hitch and sway control. Be sure to check the condition of your roof,windows and roof vents. See if any caulk need to be replaced. Our forum members have experience in products for rubber and metal roofs. It is a lot of things to check ,but it is easier to prevent water from coming in than to have major repairs. Also check the wheel bearings- will probably have this done for your inspection.
 
Thanks for all the help everyone, I will, be checking tomorrow and possibly taking some photos. I rewired the trailer to truck plug in today, because it was broken. I'm going to look at the cables and that guide rod tomorrow and see what I can get into! Looking forward to more replies. Thanks again!
