Hi all, my wife and I retired a few months ago and bought our first travel tailer. It's been our dream to see the country, so after months of searching we settled on a hi-lo. We bought a 2003 modedl. I have a question, when raising or lowing the trailer it makes a few loud noises while it's moving.

It doesn't sound like it's ready to break I'm just concerned about it. The previous owner said it has always made the noise.

Thanks,

Sounds like it just might need lubed up. The guide rail(bar) next to the ram cylinder needs to be cleaned and greased. Use spray penatrating oil on cables and pulleys (make sure to get the ones under the trailer). Use silicone spray on the outside glide rails on the lower section.

Ours did not do that when new, but after 3 years, it started making strange noises too.

I lubricated ALL the cables with WD40 (like the manual said), along their entire length. I cleaned and greased the guide rod under the trailer. I lubed all the pulleys. Finally, I readjusted the lift height on each of the cables, making sure that none was lifting too far! (You can kind of see how the seals meet when the top is up if you work at it. If one corner meets, do not raise that one any more. Bring the others up to the same level. Use 2x4s to support the top like the manual says.

I'll be picking my trailer in a few days. This wqill be my first order of business. I will post and let you guys know the outcome afterwards.

By the way, previous owner said there was no manual that came with the trailer, any ideal where I could get one?

Thanks

Hi Vince,

Regarding an Owners Manual for your 2003, go to the Reference Library of the Forum, and click on Hi-Lo Owners Manual. You'll find manuals for 2001 and 2004. Hi-Lo Owners Manuals are pretty generic and don't change much, if at all, from model to model, or from year to year unless there was a major design change. So between the two above listed manuals, you'll find virtually all of the basic operator info. you'll need, even though they're not for the exact model year of your new rig.

If you need operating info. about specific appliances that is not found in the Hi-Lo manual, you'll need to go to the appliance manufacturer's operator manual. If not in the library of this Forum, most can be downloaded from manufacturer's web sites.
