Cowboy tire changer for twin axle horse trailer

In my former life as a non-Hi-Lo travel trailer owner, I used this method for changing my tires (if necessary). It works! I've had any number of people tell me that it won't work, but it did for my "old" trailer. Haven't checked it out yet with my "new" 1997 24' Hi-Lo, but see no reason it wouldn't work. I used three pieces of 2x6 each piece about 4" shorter than the other. Give it a try. Easier than pulling out a heavy jack and all the fixin's. I drilled holes in each 2X so that I could drop small bolts through to keep the boards from sliding.

THIS WON'T WORK ON SINGLE AXLE TRAILERS!!!!

this is very good idea, a lot faster and can be used as a leveling tool for uneven camp ground. How much does it weight?

Has anyone tried this? I'd be afraid that this would warp the frame. I know if you put down the leveling jacks too far, then your entry door won't open or close until you put the jacks back up. Some try this and post please.

It's a pretty common way to service a tire on a dual axle trailer. You can buy plastic things like this at Camping World and other places. It should be really no different than jacking up the frame in that area to change a flat.

I wouldn't worry about frame warping in this case.

I built one out of scrap 2X6 and yes, they work great. They don't damage the frame at all. You position the step ramp under the tire that will stay on, then break the lug nuts loose on the tire to be removed. Just break em loose, don't remove em as there is still alot of weight on the tire. Pull forwrd or back up over the step ramp till the tire has reached the top step. Your other tire should be an inch or higher up in the air now and you can safely remove it.
