My 20 year old FunLite has a badly worn seal between sliding top and stationary bottom

Where's best place to get a replacement seal?

How difficult is it to replace?

Has anyone else replaced their rubber seal?

Replacing PBulb seal

We have done this repair on our 1990 25ft. HiLo. Our HiLo dealer got the seal from J&R. Very expensive over $400.00 plus aluminum and staples. If I had to do it over again I would order 3/4 hollow pbulb seal with a 1" stem from McMaster carr or Extrusions epm.com Do a search for others that have done this repair. A cheap fix would be to cut foam pipe wrap and place it on the exterior(shoved UP) while you are camping. Mark the pieces with a sharpie for placement. We just put up with the dirt getting in and the crumbling seals for a lot of years. This is a repair you can do if you are handy. Papa Beach did his. Let me know if you need more information on how to do this repair.

Forgot to say to take the foam out before lowering for travel.

Sam, I LOVE your idea of shoving foam pipe wrap up while camping and then simply removing before lowering

I am trying to get away as inexpensively as I can and I feel your idea would do the job well. Thanks BTW my wife says I'm "cheap".....

Replacing seal

Some have also used pool noodles. I understand what it is like to be on a fixed income. Since you will only be traveling a short distance this could work for you. I remember DH got fancy and even mitered some corners on the foam wrap. Up north you could possibly find the pool noodles on the end of season clearance.

Miranda, I also found an inexpensive alternative at home depot. Its called rope insulation. Comes is several diameters and fits great. I have cut pool noodles in 1/4s and that works also, short term. I used contact cement, lowered the top about 4" and stuck the section of noodle just below "bump". Works great, until you want to replace the seal. It's a bugger to get off.

Of course , we here in central FL don't often encounter cold weather, but foam seal even if temporary would retain AC air and keep critters OUT.

Why has my UP time slowed so much?

My 24' FunLite sits on a campsite, plugged into 30 amp shore power.

When I raise top, it goes up VERY slowly.


Why? What could be causing this suddenly?

Might I not be on level ground?

My rear, left upper goes down slightly lower than rear right? Why?


Do cables possibly need to be adjusted?


What ideas do you have?


BTW,batt is brand new and inverter IS working too and Hi-Lo is plugged into 30 amp (live) shore power.

Funny you should mention that. This passed week, we were in Oscar Scherer SP in Osprey, Fl. A small section of seal is missing in the bedroom and at night, with the lamps on, the mosquitos would join us until I put a section of rope insulation in place from the "spares" box. Works!

Miranda, you posted same time as me. Cables are not the problem. They would not cause the top to rise slowly. If the top goes up slowly, but goes all the way up and locks, then it IS the cylinder.
Your unit SHOULD be as level as possible (using blocks as necessary), stabilizers down firmly, THEN raise the top. It seems the average time to raise the top is about 10 - 14 seconds. (After my rebuild mine takes 11 sec). If yours goes all the way up and locks in, lets say, 30 or more seconds, then you have an internal leak. You can adjust the cables after you get this fixed. I'll PM you as soon as I can.

Tree, I like simple, inexpensive fixes.....like the rope insulation you shut out mosquitoes with. I'm gonna keep some of that stuff on hand.
