Many times it is a broken or corroded wire. Our lower/raising toggle switch went bad. Found something that would work at Radio Shack. They are now out of business in my town.
Hello there I just got a 1971 hilo and the wires are all disconnected it is in the up position and icant get it down the motor goes on but won't engage can you help
Jennjohn - have you tried the manual lowering valve? Can you release the safety bar? What wires are you talking about? The motor is only used to raise the top, if it runs, can you tell if it lifts the top at least just a little bit?
The camper is sitting on the safety bar. All the wires are dis connected to the solenoid. I'm trying to figure out what goes where to raise it but I have no clue I need a picture of the wiring on the motor and solenoid . Thanks fellow campers we really appreciate it!!
I don't know that we have a wiring diagram for HiLos in the 1971 time frame. However, this thread: https://www.hilotrailerforum.com/f51/1986-electrical-hydraulics-3612/ has pictures and a description of the wiring to the pump solenoid in Post #8 for a 1988 model. It may help, because there was very little change in most of the wiring over the years and I suspect this wiring scheme would work for you.
There ARE one or two members here who have 1971 models. Perhaps they may see this and will be able to help you.
Here’s my pump well, on our 76 We lower with the Silver knob and then back it out to raise with the switch. It’s not factory. I took mine to a shop and they laughed at me and said it worked....
I was flipping switches for months till it just worked. Make yourself a diagram start today. Years for now you’ll look back and think how simple. Need photos crop them first and they will come out upright.
