1969 Bon Voyage 209 overhaul

The trip went very well, only thing I forgot was a first aid kit, which I needed. Someone in the next campsite over was cutting up wood and got a pretty nasty cut, luckily the one other person camping had a small kit in his tent and we were able to patch him up. Everything else went very smoothly. Really terrible storm saturday night, which woke me up the rain was so loud hitting the roof of the camper. I was completely dry! After years of tent camping, this was a blessing. Even with the best camping gear, freshly waterproofed tent, there's almost always some sort of water intrusion. A real blessing that I was able to be out of the rain completely and felt much safer with the storm blowing around. I'm sold on the camper way of living. I ran a 12v fan the entire trip and only lost .4 volts on the battery. Anyways here's some pics of the trip.

Glad to hear you had a good trip and everything went well with the trailer. Like you, my wife and I tented for a number of years and felt so relieved when we finally made the leap and bought our first small trailer.

went for a three nighter this weekend, went very well, new led lights work great, and it rained pretty hard one night so we ended up playing cards in the camper. Now that I'm home, I'm going to start pulling the vent and the roof corner trim to waterproof. I'm also trying to find an awning for it, any of you had any luck retrofitting a newer awning to an old camper? I've been looking at retractible awnings on amazon, that are meant for a house, but actually weigh less than a typical camper awning. Not sure what I'm going to do there, but it would be nice to have waterproof shelter for all my kitchen stuff and would allow me to use my easy up shelter for other things.

Guitarman, glad to hear you made it out with your "jewel" and things went well. We are currently in Moab, Utah for several days before moving on to Mesa Verde, CO and other points, including Pagosa Springs, CO. and will be returning home whenever.

Started my quest to waterproof the camper. Started with the roof vent. Couldn't help myself, here's a pic of before and after polishing :D

Made some progress waterproofing and cleaning up windows. I polished until my fingers fell off.
Found some of the original paint under the eaves.

What most of the windows looked like this morning

Here's the after of one window

And here's the side of the camper I finished today. Just need to put caulk around all the seams

Started doing some painting, tried to get more done today, but it looks like it could rain any minute. I'm VERY happy with my color choices.

I have been following your build.
Looking good.
I have had my 1985 for 3 years now and I have found out that you may say you are done, but that is only for this project.
There is always something to do and to improve.

That rock guard came out looking new.
Now to finish off the lower half painting. It will travel and show its true colors upon arrival.

Now, go camp!

steve

it's rustoleum, thinned out and sprayed through my gun. I was going to go base coat/ clear, but seemed kind of expensive for a less than perfect old camper lol
